remapping and fuel economy

ummm well now ive been driving nearly a full week with my remap i wanted to ask you lot something. errr did any of your fuel economys get better after the remap? im driving like a nutter and my average consumption is just getting better and better. currenlty on 49.6 since saturday....very odd. especially as the remap increases fuel that goes into the cauldron. odd that. anyone else got an amazing explanation for me?????

Re: remapping and fuel economy

Well the remap causes your onboard fuel computer to mess up as it affects injector pulse duration..

But even measuring it brim to brim and working out consumption manually, you should expect a small gain in MPG given the same driving style.

Re: remapping and fuel economy

increased fueling doesnt mean an increase in wasted fuel, the ignition map changes make sure you burn that extra fuel, so your engine's efficiency is increased. it is the increase in efficiency that results in a small increase in fuel economy. if you did the exact same journey before and after you wouldn't need to rev as highly on the post-remap journey. obviously if you use the remap as an excuse to kill it more often then you will use more fuel, but thats your fault not the remap's.

Thats to be expected after remapping a diesel, not so sure if its the same story when you remap a petrol though.
