Madness 147 back at last - been gone since Dec 7th!

I posted way back then, trying to identify why the Traction Control was flickering into action all the time.

It seems, eventually, after threatening with solicitors, Trading Standards etc that it turned out to be the Control Unit for the ABS.

Replaced at a cost of 1500 - now working as it should.

Why so long to resolve? Why so costly?

Glad to see you have finally got it sorted, and I am very interested to hear the diagnosis. My car randomly activates the traction control, but only on right hand bends. Talking about very sensible speeds, not tight bends, and dry roads. Do you know the exact part that was replaced??

Isn't the VDC issue related to a low battery? poor batterys always seem to send Alfa's off.

Had a new battery only a few months ago, and the problem was happening before and is still happening now.

Sorry it's taken so long to reply!

I was told simply that it was the Central Processor. It usually means some kind of mini-computer, does it not?

Having been replaced, the problem has certainly gone away. I was told though, while they were looking for the problem, that there were sensors (which they suspected as being the problem) in the wheel bearings which might be worth a look. As the problem happened all the time on my car, I felt, correcetly as it turned out, that this wasn't the problem we had.

Since then we've discovered the 36k cam-belt change saga too! But, also sorted

Interesting stuff. The problem with mine does not seem as bad as you had, and only on right hand bends. Sounds like its worth investigating the sensors, wonder how easy/much they will be to find/replace!!??

No, we didn't but the garage I bought it from did!

They tried to fix it themselves, changing wheels, tyres(!!) etc. We pressed very hard and they eventually gave it to an Alfa Dealer who sorted it in a couple of days; It was the dealer who told us what they were charging! £1500 for the part and maybe some more for labour?
