Banging in my Alfa

No, not that kind of banging

If i drive over a small hole in the road,Afla, glides over it..if i hit a big

hole, i get a banging noise on the front wheel..well av had it in the

garage, they said...well we have had it up on the ramps, but cannot

see any wear and tear anywhere, just wait until it gets worse, then

bring it in, must be someone in here thats had the same prob and

knows what the problem is..

Re: Banging in my Alfa

The 156 suffers from lots of suspension issues - it could be wishbone bushes, the front ARB and more. However, the 156 has a very "crashy" ride - when you go over a large hole or a drain cover that's well below the surface of the road, you get a big crash from the suspension that can sound quite alarming. I had this in my 156 2.0 TS and have it in my GTA. I think fitting better dampers on the suspension would cure it, as would avoiding larger holes in the road.

Best bet would be to get to an Alfa specialist that knows the 156. They will be able to help - if this was a local garage they won't have the knowledge. I'd also suggest you post this in the 156 tech lounge.

Cheers,

Nigel

If the bang sounds high up the damper is shot and is going all the way without any damping on rebound, dampers break eventually, fact of life.

Re: Banging in my Alfa

If your car is a sportpack car it will tend to crash obver the bumps. Even bumps in which our Fiat Cinquecento glides over seem to affect the Alfa.

The roads around here are awful, and missing all the holes is impossible. Its just a good thing I don't have low profile tyres.
