156 2.0 TS

Alfa Ideas

Hey all,

Got myself a 156 2.0 TS recently. It's an 04' plate with 40k on it. Have a few plans to make it look a little nicer and wondered if you guys would cast your views.

Its got the 15" standard wheels on it (pepperpot?), and I would quite like something a bit bigger. The cars that lovely bright red and I thought maybe some 17" multispoke white alloys would look quite nice, I've seen 1 or 2 like this on the net and I thought they looked different.

I also thought about getting some lowering springs to make it sit a bit better, are eibach springs the way to go? Just 30mm or so. I'm not after massive handling gains, I'm trying to stick to a budget hehe.

I'm torn on wether I like the alfa wing, I know a lot of people dont like it but I think i do lol. That might be a future thing.

So anyway can anyone give me some feedback? I've attached a pic of the car as it is now (the scrape on the bumper is being sorted )

Re: Alfa Ideas

If you go for a wing, (high level or small one) you'll want the sideskirts too, one doesn't work so well without the other.

My opinion? Go for the big wing, do a job properly or not at all

Bigger wheels, zender kit an i love the big rear wing, although you cant see out of the rear window for it, but it does light up pretty when you brake @ nite lol

Re: Alfa Ideas

Big wing is definitely good when cars have their lights on bright behind you on a motorway.. But lets not talk about it like it has a reason other than aesthitics, I love the BFOW but many don't

Definitely go with sideskirts, either normal Veloce ones or a set like these:

Alfa 156 Cadamuro Seitenschweller Cadamuro Seitenschweller

if you are into body kits there are some nice ones around, like this GTA-look front bumper:

Alfa Romeo 156 » SPOILER POSTERIORE: SPOILER POSTERIORE (Con terza luce - SPOILER POSTERIORE: SPOILER POSTERIORE (senza terza luc - COPRIPINZE in ABS ad Alta Resistenza GTA Look di Colore Gial » Helvetia - Spoiler

A nice rear bumper, looks similar to the Zender kit:

Alfa 156 Cadamuro Heckschürzenaufsatz inkl. Diffusor Cadamuro Heckschürzenspoiler inkl. Diffusor

Lowering is an option but don't go too low! Veloce springs and some good dampers such as Koni adjustables.. Or maybe get a set of adjustable coilovers so you can set the height how you like it. But you are starting to talk big money, for that you could do some serious performance modifications, like the Autodelta J11 turbocharged Twinspark:

AUTODELTA

Best of luck, good to have another prospective modder on the site

Re: Alfa Ideas

Just google "300 euros in pounds" or whatever the price is and it will convert it automatically for you.

Re: Alfa Ideas

The original Alfa brochure had a car kitted out just like that. Poor phone pic unfortunately but here's what it might look like ....

I think it would look good, especially with the tinted glass and smaller spoiler.

Re: Alfa Ideas

I put the 17" multispokes (silver) on my old 2.0 TS and stiffer/lower Eibach springs and it looked great (and handled better). I personally think white alloys looks too chav, silver or anthracite would be much better. I hate the big wings, I even think little wings spoil the beautiful clean lines. A subtle body kit would look great though (without a wing....).

Cheers,

Nigel

thats the zender kit, back in 97/98 you could order it from zender through AR (and pay a lot more)

Re: Alfa Ideas

You'l no doubt be needing some furry dice to hang from the interior mirror.

Big wings are for chavs.

All the 'funny' grilles look just that 'funny' peculiar.
I'l let you off with a new set of wheels...just don't make them too 'bling' for heavens sake

I just don't see the point of taking one of the most perfect, pure and aesthetically pleasing car designs from one of the finest design studios in the world and inflicting tasteless styling zits all over its otherwise perfect skin.

You don't see people do this to Ferraris do you, so why insult an Alfa Romeo with this rubbish. I don't know what gets into people people who think they look better. They don't..it just turns something classy into something cheap. Every time I see a bewinged Alfa 156 I think "There goes the big brother of the kid round the corner with the white Corsa covered in plastic bumpers that don't fit no matter how much you stretch the imagination".

Whatever happened to the word 'subtle'

I know I have loosed off a broadside against your plans, and please take it with a pinch of salt. All I ask is that you consider the art of car design, and all that has gone into it to make it as good as it is. Its too easy to muck it up, and I'd hate you to spend a lot of your hard earned cash and then think "That looks prett naff" six months down the road..apart from which..you will need your cash for cambelts, bushes etc etc.

P.S. Hope its a great car Honest

Re: Alfa Ideas

Thanks for all the feedback people.

AlfaLincs - I agree with your opinions actually, I want to keep it more or less standard, someone mentioned side skirts earlier on, and whilst they look good when they come standard, I actually prefer the look without them, the curve of the body is eccentuated more. My main want for the car is some nicer alloys. The pepperpots are growing on me I'd just prefer something a little bigger. I'd like to keep with Alfa alloys to be fair, but at the price they cost (and then with tyres on top) they're a fortune and I just cant afford them.

I may do some searching around to see if I can get hold of some GTA teledials or maybe supersports.

Thanks for all the ideas guys, unforunately some of the bodykits etc arent to my taste.

Keep it comin!

Got 17" Supersports on my 147 & hink they look the bees knees. You quite often see them on eBay for around £ 500.00 I think including tyres which is a pretty good price. OK the tyres might not be brilliant but at that price. Just looked but they're not on there at the moment but if you keep looking some more should come up. I did see these though 17 "alloy wheels for alfa romeo on eBay, also, Alfa Romeo, Car Parts, Cars, Parts Vehicles (end time 25-Jan-08 21:11:17 GMT)

Steady on! Loads of us have the BFOW, and aren't chavs. Thats a huge, inaccurate generalisation to make..

Plus it was a factory option, do you like the silver mirrors on the 159 Ti? Or are they 'chav' as well?

Re: Alfa Ideas

..Next you'l be saying you havn't got furry dice Pud

Read on dear boy..where I did suggest readers take my comments with a pinch of salt..mind you I still think the tall wing is very very naff..I can however, just about tolerate the smaller wing, but only when I'm in a good mood.

Silver mirrors on 159 I can just about go with as OK as they have to do something to distinguish it from the standard model, and its not too ostentatious, and it does avoid that old problem of replacement mirror covers being supplied in black and needing respraying in the body colour..which usually ended up with them looking odd

I'd love a 159 Ti
