Engine designs for other marques?

I've heard/read a few times about Alfa Romeo designing engines for other marques. However a bit of quick googling doesn't reveal much. Does anybody here know which marques and engines, if any?

Yamaha worked with Ford & Mazda in developing the 1.25 Zetec engine, apparantly.

Re: Engine designs for other marques?

It's not very common for Alfa to do this.
The only one I can think of is the 1.9JTD which goes into Opel/Vauxhall/Saabs.

(I'm ignoring any Fiat/Lancia crossovers).

Thanks Rick - that's one then.

And yes, lets not count the rest of the family.

Interestingly Subaru had a go at F1 in 1990 and the engine was a flat 12 designed by Carlo Chitti who also responsible for the Alfa flat 12 engines in the racing 33's that did so well.

Mmmmm... Tipo 33... <enchanted emoticon goes here>

According to the Carlo Chiti Wikipedia article: "In 1999, Koenigsegg bought blueprints, machining tools and the patent for an unused 4 litre Chiti designed Formula One flat-12 engine". I assume this was bought from Alfa, not from Chiti personally. As we know the engine wasn't used in the then to be Koenigsegg CC B12S (yet?). More info on that in this article.

And Datsun! Come to think of it, that's one I've heard rumours about. Doesn't matter if its a while ago; trying to uncover some obcure history An interesting article on the The Alfa-Nissan partnership can be found here.

Good work folks, a few relevant keywords work wonders. Keep them coming!

Re: Engine designs for other marques?

As noted in another thread here on AO, the Gillet Vertigo uses a modified Alfa V6.

P.S. The vB-coded URL display texts are sometimes a bit strange.

the 1.9JTD is a fiat engine, so you cant count that either.

alfa dont develop their own engines any more.

the last true alfa developed engine was the V6 in 1979, it isnt even in use any more (not since 2005).

the alfa twincam (as we know it) started in 1954, it ended in 1994. since then the 16v twinspark and JTS were only alfa modifed heads on a fiat block.

alfa dont do engine development for anyone else.

So in effect the 'Alfa' heads for the GM V6 block are Fiat developed heads?

Anyway, I'm still interested in any historical engine cross overs.
