This is the first time I have tried to embed a Youtube clip, so not sure if it will work.

I think you could be right - and I understand the JTD was remapped.

I wouldn't be surprised in a short sprint, The bertie will be as light as a feather compared to the GT.

Rubbish! There was more time spent on filming the sky than the cars. Why o why people upload videos like this is beyond me!

What's rubbish, the thought that the bertie beat the Gt or just the clips themselves?

I mean I thought that was the whole point of YouTube - displaying real life stuff.

It's got to be said that between the cameraman's skills and his planky mate wandering around in the way it's not the greatest movie I've ever seen on the internet but I would be pretty sure the best looking car there won.

Needs his valve guides doing though. He was smoking more than the JTD!

Any idea what engine that one had, Rick? On paper should it have won? I seem to remember the 1600 Bertie's being able to to 0-60 in around 10 secs..

Re: Classic GT Vs 1.9JTD

It was a 1750 Mark 1! What engine he had in it I don't know but as standard the 1750 was 118bhp and weighed just over a tonne. 0-60 was 9'ish. They don't need much tinkering to get a fair bit more from them though and he had none standard wheels so perhaps he has fiddled elsewhere. Either way he got a much better start than the GT!!

The bertie was leading and it's difficult to see the Gt catching up if it was a quarter mile sprint.

I fair enjoyed seeing the old timer lifting her skirts and seeing off the fat youngster.

I would say the gt would have been hunting the 105 down come the end of the race, new cars are so much quicker with speed on.

I would say that could have gone either way, considering you only saw the cars for the first 30 yds or so. If a remapped GT against a standard Bertie didn't win the driver needs shot.

I'm at all sure the Bertie was standard, either.

looking at the other clips it's very hard to see how long the sprint was as they seemed to disappear over a rise.

One thing's for sure, though, the Bertie could put the power down much better than the Gt - anything to do with RWD or just better driving?

Re: Classic GT Vs 1.9JTD

Maybe we should film a decent UK version - I would be happy to be potentially embarrassed by a souped up Bertie.

Me too. but I don't know why?

Maybe I do! It reminds me when my brother and I were boys and grandad made us race him on the beach. He beat us hands down and we all fell about laughing - still reminisce about it to this day.
