HID Retrofit

I've currently got a HID Kit on my 156. But this will be going over the next 4 weeks, and I'll be looking to retrofit a HID kit onto the GT that I aim to buy in the 156's place, but sadly it doesnt have a headlight washer system on it.

Is this illegal and a MOT failure, or is it just a legal requirement of new cars from the factory.

Re: HID Retrofit

there's many xenon/HID threads around.

how about waiting for the 'right' GT, which surely would be one with xenons factory-fitted?

Re: HID Retrofit

No, it's not an MOT failure, but it's not technically legal either

Re: HID Retrofit

It is illegal unless the headlight unit was made for xenon lamps and has automatic levelling of the lights or suspension.

ie- You can't just wack a conversion kit into your existing headlights!

However they don't check this on the MOT test... At the moment anyway

Re: HID Retrofit

'Tis true! They don't.

Not sure what would be said if a knowledgeable plod (?!) or VOSA where to pull you up / spot check though.

Re: HID Retrofit

Useful info on here. They probably will pass an MOT but in the event of any accident could well be refused a payout....
