GTV and 156 TS engines (variator)

I've got a 2.0 TS selespeed 156 (2000) and a 2.0 TS GTV (1997). Are the engines the same? Can I swap things like the AFM from one to the other?

Also, the variator is shot on the GTV. I've got a spare inlet cam with variator from my 156, I don't have a clue if it's any good as i've never heard the engine run before I removed the camshaft. Is there a way to test what it's like before fitting it?

Are the camshafts/variators the same for both engines?

Cheers, Tom.

The engine on the 156 is probably the 155 bhp one, whilst on the GTV its probably the 150 bhp version, so there will be slight differences.

What are the differences do you know? I know the inlet manifold looks different, could that be it?

Re: GTV and 156 TS engines (variator)

I am pretty sure the cam profiles are the same as the camlocks for both versions are the same but the MAF is certainly different. Early TS engines use a seperate air intake temp sensor where as the later cars have one built into the MAF. The variators are the same part.

I have a early type MAF, that is in working order if you need one.

The extra 5 bhp comes from the variable inlet fannymold.

Cheers for that, will fit my old camshaft and see how I get on. It can't be any worse than the variator thats on it now!

How much Simon? Is it an original Alfa part or any Ebay jobbie?
