Where to after GT ?

Our second child is due in a couple of months and I doubt i'm going to be realistically able to keep the GT, 2kids and all the clutter in a GT is going to be difficult....any one else managing it ?

If I do let the GT go I can't see anything out there that appeals.

I like the look of the 159ti but can't face another brand new car purchase as the depreciation on the 159 will be worse than the GT. I also feel the 159 is going to be too lardy and needs to shed a few pounds(as Alfa know!). Again like the sportwaggon ti but not going to find a 2nd hand one i'd imagine.

Outside of Alfa I can't stand the ugly 3 series, the mondeo is a great car but dull, the new jag range looks interesting but pricey, volvo & saabs are old mens cars leaving really the A4 in s-line guise as the only alternative but the german sterility puts me off.

Is there anywhere else to turn ? - not really wanting to chav it up in a Scooby or Mitsubishi

So to recap Style, Space & performance please.

There are several used 159 Sportwagons on the Autotrader website starting at £14,999.

Re: Where to after GT ?

If you can't face the 159 SW Ti why not a 156 SW GTA?

Personally I would go for the 159 if you can face the new car depreciation - I saw a red one (2.4) in my local dealership last week - Gorgeous!! TBH I think the Ti will hold value well - on par with GT at a guess! Or go for a 166 brand new at almost half price! - Great motor, loads of space and huge spec, I am still trying to convince myself that the sportronic would be ok for me!

New & Used Alfa Romeo 166 - Veloces of London

Gone but not forgotten - 164 3.0 12v - 156 1.8 SP1 - 164 3.0 24v - 156 SW 1.8 SP3 - 166 Super - 166 3.2 Ti - Brera SV JTDM - 156GTA - 147GTA - 147GTA - 156GTA. Current Giulietta QV

Re: Where to after GT ?

You can't get rid of the GT! Don't you also have a coastal blue Golf like us? Won't that do as a sort-of practical family car? Perhaps not - it's boot isn't that big is it. We manage with the Golf and the GT, and have 2 kids, but our nippers are 4 and 7 so we have less paraphernalia to transport around than when they were babies. The GT is proving fairly practical for us at the moment - we'll even be taking it to the middle of France to visit my parents in the summer.

If you HAVE to let the GT go, I reckon a used 159 wouldn't be a bad thing to replace it with. I can't say a 159 appeals to me anything like as much as the GT, but then I can't think of anything at all that appeals like the GT.

Congratulations on the imminent arrival by the way!

EDIT: on second thoughts, couldn't you ditch the Golf and get a 159 to accompany the GT rather along the lines of Squadrone?

Now that's getting greedy

I can't justify having 40K of cars on the drive !

I quite enjoy driving the golf every now and then, handles great if a little underpowered.

I definately would if there was a 2nd hand market for them.

Wonder what I could get one for on lease / pcp whatever you call it these days.

I've enjoyed the 156 we had before the GT but not sure i'd replace the Golf with it for the wife.

We could get by with the GT & the Golf but we'd end up using the Golf all the time and the GT would be sat on the drive.

Re: Where to after GT ?

Before you dismiss a used 159 SW go and drive one and see what you think. I think you might like it more than you expect, and getting a used one takes the heat out of the depreciation issue..then you can make this a stepping stone car to a TI or one of the lighter ones if/when they appear in a few years.

A 159 SW will make an excellent car for family travel and /or personal use. We all really like our 156 SW..and its just big enough for me and the missus and our two very tall children (age 17 and 19), so there should be bags of room for you and the baby paraphenalia in a 159. We find with the 2.4JTD there is still bags of go four up, such is the torque.
