Crazed 3000 revs max...

I started my car today, and the motor control light decided it would come on today, just to annoy me for a laugh.

When I was pulling away in first, I got to 3000 revs, and the car wouldn't go past that. It just stuttered and stayed at 3000 revs. I thought that was weird, so I changed to 2nd, and the same happened. 3000 revs, and it was having none of it. It was the same for 3rd gear aswell.

What that about. Some sort of mystical restrictor. It wont go past 3000 at all. It stops dead on.

Any thoughts whats wrong?

Its a 147. 1.6 lusso by the way.

Re: 3000 revs max...

Sounds like you have a problem with a sensor somewhere and the injection computer has gone onto limp. More than one of the position sensors or a position and the MAF. Get it on a diagnostic machine for fault codes - it'll tell you what has failed. It's done this cos it cannot guarantee correct mixture or timing above 3000, and it lets you know something is wrong!!!

Good luck getting it sorted mate! should just be a case of replace the duff sensors.

Before you pay out for a diagnostic, reach in and unplug the MAF, see if it makes any difference.

If it turns out to be the MAF I'd recommend trying to give it a clean (there's a few threads on here detailing how to do it).

If the cleaning works then you'll have saved yourself a couple of hundred quid.

Anyone got a picture of the MAF in an alfa 147 engine?

Re: 3000 revs max...

Ive located the MAF, but, now I need to know how to get it off. I've got the two clips unclipped, but it still wont come away from the main pipe. Anyone know of any secret clips to undo?
