Junior delayed!

In Februarys edition of Evo....

"The pretty Alfa Junior coupe was expected to be shown at this years Geneva motor show in March, but Alfa has had a change of heart and is now not going to reveal the car until September. Alfa says it wants to make some changes to the cars interior".

After all the hype and now the delay

Re: Junior delayed!

Thats a shame, I hope they change the front lights while they are at it.

This is all starting to feel horribly familiar. What is the betting on the relaunch in the USA being pulled due to the financial climate being unfavourable.

Re: Junior delayed!

This is gonna be a major problem - alfa needed to get this car out there, generate loads of interest and then sell, sell, sell - it ain't gonna do much for their bottom line.

Seems a bit odd to be changing the interior this late in the game - poor feedback from "screenings" maybe?

I remember reading a while back that alfa wanted to do away with the cowls over the dials

Re: Junior delayed!

I got some official information today regarding the Junior, I have not taken the time to go through it yet but it shows that production will not start until March 2009

Since when did a highly anticipated car ever get released without numerous delays?

I heard this too but for the 159. A top executive was saying the 159's dash would be changed to be more conventional, I bet this is happening on the Junior now. Quite why that would take 6 months or so is beyond me. I think it will also be to do with the fact that the factory is closed for around 2 months at the moment for a total refit.

Haven't they been easing in that direction with the new dash on the GT?
It's a shame, really...

Re: Junior delayed!

I personally think the delay will be quite damaging to the Junior as there has been too much deliberate leaking to tease the market and the journalists. To cry off for another year looks very bad. They should have kept quieter until they were sure it was ready.

147 was delayed as Walter da Silva was unhappy with the quality of the interior, and made them spend more on it. In that case I think it paid off as the 155 interiors were uninspired, and the 147 interior has always been pleasing.

They also need the Junior badly. It could also get in the way of other launches and have a domino effect.

Lets hope its 100% when it does get here.

Re: Junior delayed!

That's not good

They badly need to replace the 147, and given that the 149 isn't due to the end of next year I predict a huge fall in Alfa sales this year

But if everyone goes and buys the stunning new Bravo, or the Grande Punto, then things won't be too bad. Those sporty versions of two new Fiats have kind of moved into Alfa territory, so if they pick up Alfa's slack then at least FIAT still get the money to keep pumping into Alfa. Whats the alternatives to the 147?

Re: Junior delayed!

Bravo is not selling well, the 147 beat it in Italy...in terms of sale numbers.

If they delay the junior, that will strengthen the rumors that Fiat Auto will be soon for sale...for the last 2 years they are rapping the dealers forcing them to buy a lot of cars, the dealers in Italy are flooded with Fiat auto cars. They are just trying to sale as many cars as possible (to the dealers) to make up the numbers to make Fiat Auto group like good.

Selespeed, I will be in Geneva as well...and if they don't show the Junior maybe you can help me kill the Alfa CEO.

We must take into account this is a magazine report, and as we all know the media does like to twist the truth.

Re: Junior delayed!

Got a chance to talk to a Alfa dealer and he said that the junior is most likely to go on sale about June and apparently a new special edition Brera is coming out April-May.

Yea I agree they should change the front headlights, It looks too too similar to the Grand Punto, which I donít personally like that much.

In my opinion they should change the headlights like the ones shown in the 169 concept. Check the link out:

Dealer talking out of the hole where the sun does not shine, that makes a change.

Re: Junior delayed!

Agree. Don't like that at all. I thought the drawings posted a while back looked great but I don't like this at all. Very cumbersome front end. Let's hope it gets better before production.

EDIT - perhaps the low down angle doesn't do it credit. just checked one of the other articles where the concept looks much better when viewed from higher up. Can't see the back end enough in this one.

Cheers,

Nigel

Re: Junior delayed!

From what Frank Stephenson was saying, he wants rid of the Alfa grille, he reckons it stifles design, so would be surprised if any new models (after those almost ready that is) have the famous grille

Re: Junior delayed!

You got to keep the famous grill, if they take it off there going to lose what makes Alfas stick out from the crowd (looks wise).

I agree, not to impressed with how the junior looks, looks too busy and cluttered. You can tell its take the shape of a Grand Punto, even though itís based on it but plezzzz be a gorgeous Alfa instead.........
