GTV V6: Advice Required Please!

Hey guys,

I have come across a GTV V6 for sale. Here are the details:

Manual, 62,000 miles, Metallic Red with black leather interior with Alfa Romeo stiching. 2 door Coupe. MOT until December 2008. FSH. Alloy Wheels. Air Conditioning. ABS. . Driver and Passenger Airbags. Electric Windows. Master Key. Adjustable Steering Column. Front Foglights. Excellent Condition. Recent Cam Belt Change. Please call to arrange a test drive. No canvassers, no agencies. Thanks. £3,000. ovno

Now, it looks pretty decent, but I'm not sure what Phase it is, 1 or 2, as it doesn't have colour coded side skirts and no spoiler it might be a Ph1??? Not certain.

It is burgandy with black leather interior with cream carpet, the interior looks amazing, not a huge fan of the exterior colour to be honest but beggars can't be choosers,

He's asking £3000 OVNO.

Now, I've asked him if he has the reciepts to confirm the cambelt and tensioner change, asked if all the electrics work etc, asked if he has all keys and dealer books/manuals etc.

Anything else I should find out about these that's important?

Personally, if I can get the car for £2750 I'd be really happy, especially considering the low mileage and history. Even that's outside of my current budget but whatever,

Advice and opinions as always appreciated!

Cheers,
Darren

What year/plate is it?

*Edit* - I've found the advert, it's a Phase One I believe.

I'd definitely go and have a look. If he's got all the receipts for the work done, and the master key, then it sounds like a good deal.

It's definitely a Phase 1, you can tell from the skirts, grill, and centre console.

When you do see it be thorough, check all the electrics and stuff yourself, flick every switch and press every button making sure it does what it's meant to do.

Check for suspension noise when driving it, go over some bumps on the test drive and listen for big squeaks. This could be the bushes. Get your head under and have a feel too. Noise doesn't mean it's fatal, but it could mean they're on their way out. Also, feel the tyres for jaggedy, uneven wear.

I would always recommend going with another person, even if they're not mechanically minded, as your heart will take over and you'll want to buy it regardless. If it's a dog, then the other person will be there to keep you straight.

Also, don't go straight in there at 2750. Ask the guy his bottom line, then ask him if he can take 2500 or something, and work your way up.

Good luck.

It would more than likely grow on me, but the only thing I'm not a fan of is the lack of colour coded side skirts. The Phase 2 really is something else.

Darren make sure you do all your looking at it before you drive it or I gaurantee if it runs right you will love it and your judgement will be clouded.

Re: GTV V6: Advice Required Please!

Oil Cooler, Radiator and Clutch would be my additions to the checks - along with belts, suspension, electrics and service history that have already been mentioned.

happy hunting
