Just got back from our Garden Route tour.

Our band has just completed our end of year tour. I took my 156 along. We covered 4600km in just over two weeks.

The car was an absolute dream. No problems, no oil used and average fuel consumption about 12.8 km/l.

Here are a couple of pics from where we stayed.

Cheers,

Peter.

The two hotel pics with the sea in the background was at the Kelway Hotel in Port Elizabeth and the rainbow pic was from my chalet in Port Alfred.

Incidently, you guys who stay at the coast don't know how lucky you are. The gain in engine performance was mind boggling.

Johannesburg is at a very high altitude. When you get down to the coast it feels like you've gained quite a few extra horsepower.

Nice pic's. Hopeing to come over in October with the family as we have frends in Johannesburg and plan to fly down to drive the garden route. How long does a lesurly drive take? What are the chances of hireing an Alfa in Cape Town?

It depends on where you're staring from.

We went from East London, through Port Alfred, Port Elizabeth, Plettenberg Bay, Knysna, George and then Mossel Bay.

You're looking at about 600km for that trip. Be careful of the speed cameras along the way. They are all over the show.

Chances of hiring an Alfa in Cape Town? Nil.

Re: Just got back from our Garden Route tour.

Looking at a map I think it will be a run up the motorway from Cape Town to Mossel Bay and then along to port Elizabeth and back to Cape town on the Motorway.

I thought An Alfa would be a long shot as Hiring one in Italy wasn't exactly straight forward.

Well, not exactly. How about a classic 69 Spider? (http://www.motorclassic.co.za/englis...er/details.htm)

She'll set you back a cool 1k (pounds) for the trip and pretty much limits the family to two...

But no, not a chance of picking up a normal Alfa as rental.

As said , no change of hire. You looking at Cape Town - Mossel Bay +/- 350km, speed limit 120km/h, Mossel Bay - Tsitsikamma +/- 200 km stick to the speed limit what ever you do, speed limit between 60 km/h and 100km/h, Tsitsikamma - Port Elizabeth 200 km, speed limit 120/km/h.
All in all a very nice drive :aaANYWORD:

Thanks for the tips. I got snapped in Aus twice last year and it cost over 100 when we got back and letters started arriving.
