156 engine cut out

when I was driving this morning, the car cut out on me as I turned a corner and all the dashboard lights came on. I lost steering and brakes, then about 1-2 seconds later, the engine kicked back in and everything has been fine since.... my wife said the same thing happened yesterday, anyone got any suggestions on what may be up?

Re: 156 engine cut out

Mine did it when the battery was on the way out...

Though only when i had the stereo cranked up.... But did it exactly like you said.

Since changing the battery for a halfords heavy duty one its not done it. I assumed the fault was with the battery cutting power as the amp sucked it dry. That said, the positive leads clamp onto the battery was broken, so the whole black box with all the power connections was lose. I replaced that also... It could well have been that, but since the battery was small and old, i played it safe.

check the connections on the battery. mine cut out and i found that the fuse box on top of the battery had melted caused by a nut coming loose and constant sparking!

I've had this too (see my post) but it only happens every 6 weeks or so. The "professionals" !!?? have had a look at it and can't find anything wrong. Concensus on this forum in reply to my post seemed to be the crankshaft sensor on the way out . . . .

Re: 156 engine cut out

I had a similar problem, cutting out regularly, spent money on replacing the TDC sensor etc but it would still cut out. Same thing as you all lights, brakes, power steering etc. Occaissional just a click but sometimes a full cut out..luckily it only happened on quieter roads.

It turned out to be a bad earth/ bad connection from the negative cable. My mechanic added an extra "earthing" cable from the negative to an eathing point on the car and after that no further cut outs.
