The Stealth Banger engine has died

My 1999 2litre 156 has died

The engine started sounding really rough and misfiring after blootering along. It then idled...just with a lot of pinking/clanging/rattling etc.

managed to nurse it home. Engine had no power and sounded like a well gubbed diesel.

Now it won't start at all.

Alfadiag gave the code P0443 which is to do with the emissions system.
Says the circuit is open.

I doubt this is stopping the car from starting though, it has to be something else.

Any ideas ???

Re: The Stealth Banger engine has died

Electronic death can do that, could it be a gubbed lambda sensor or summat else? or knock sensors going haywire? It isn't unknown for the sensors to go nuts or start giving reverse results sending the whole system nuts.

Is it possible it has gone onto limp mode????

Re: The Stealth Banger engine has died

well it certainly limped, but I don't think it was the built in "limp home" mode.

I'm hoping that it's cheap to fix !!!
