16V engine

In between the throttle body and the cylinder head is a non-metallic sandwich plate. The ones I have got have cracks growing from the water gallery hole . Anyone know where I can get either new, or very good s/hand, or what material it is I could make some others from or what happens if they arent fitted ?
Does this just act as a heat barrier to stop the throttle bodies getting to hot?

HELP

Re: 16V engine

What year model is this?

Have you asked at an alfa dealer? I don't suppose a new one costs too much. Is this plate made of a bakelite type of material?

Are there card gaskets either side of this plate? I'm trying to picture it.

Re: 16V engine

They are black arent they?
some sort of plastic?
maybe they are meant to prevent vibrations unding the nuts holding them to the head?
And I would think if you left them out the studs would end up being too long !
as for where to get them try alfashop, good for boxer engine bits and do mail-order.

Re: 16V engine

Try just-suds. They're for insulation purposes as you've thought. If I find some in my shed I'll let you know.

Just been out in the cold and no luck with these items.

You could try:-
Webcon Fuel Injection Components

I've used them for Webber carb kits and they also do fuel injected stuff.

Re: 16V engine

Thanks guys. I have asked at an Alfa dealer and the part isnt listed for any 33 16V.
The engine I am making is a bitsa so the year doesnt really matter. I will go back to the dealers and see if the part is listed for the 145.
Not had much joy with Alfa shop for specific bits like this but will try them again.
I have heard that on some racers they dont fit them. My concern is that with rallying you have to sit in queues and drive the car from A to B on public roads. Am I going to get a lot of heat sink into the throttle bodies that will give me problems?
