I have just sent him a message to ask the mileage. Is it still not a bit dodgy though as it has already had a cambelt failiure. i was under the impresion this made the engine more weak and liable to bust just like mine has.
The car has done just under 88000 miles but the engine has done just under 7000 mile since it was rebuilt. I fitted new shells but there was nothing wrong with the ones I took out. I inspected all the journals and they were totally round and true, as were the mains and big ends.
no its not necessarily true that the engine is weaker after a belt failure - if the engine has had to be fully rebuilt then it will be stronger then ever and probably last longer. mine was rebuilt at 40k after a cambelt failure at a cost of £1800 and now at 88K it is better than ever.
The Selespeed had a manual 'box fitted with the Selespeed gubbins bolted on top. The engine will have the same flywheel etc as your model.
It was because of the (mis)information on this site that, despite my better judgement, made me go and buy new shells which I didn't need!
