Cry Like A Baby 156 Engine Woe Is Me

I have a 2001 156 2.0TS Selespeed Sportwagon and have enjoyed it thoroughly until last week

The car had just been serviced, new tyres all round, supsension, brakes and all the trimmings and was running like a dream

Drove to work and heard an ominous clanking

Drove home from work and dropped the car with my friendly local garage who have diagnosed a catastrophic engine failure. Bottom end disaster and basically advised I need a new engine or a new car

Can anyone advise a good source for a replacement engine?

I'm based in Leeds so somewhere northern would be easier but at the moment I just want my car back!!!

Any indications on likely cost also greatly appreciated

Great to meet you all on the forum and hope to hear something to cheer me up a little soon

Daniel

Give Allitalia (in Wrexham) a phone on 01978 757588 - they sometimes have second hand engines in.

By the sound of things yours has been run low on oil at some point...

I would buy a new car altogether mate if I were you, as replacing the engine would be a right old pain in the ass.

Plus, you can go through the excitement of buying a new car, whereas this road will only lead to hassle.

Good luck and let us know what you decide and how you get on,
Darren

Sorry to hear about this. Ital Auto's do recon engines guaranteed for 12 months, and advertise on eBay.. £1150, which isn't too bad. Remember to check the oil weekly too

Do you or anyone else have experience of dealing with Ital Autos?

I've seen them advertised but have heard one bad story and nothing particularly positive to balance it

Re: 156 Engine Woe Is Me

scrapyard engine supplied and fitted total cost less than £500, sorted.

then fix your bottom end yourself and sell the old engine on ebay to make your money back, there's plenty of suckers on ebay who'll pay double scrapyard prices.

Re: 156 Engine Woe Is Me

Unlucky same happened to my old Twin Spark. Mine was caused by a dishonest so-called Alfa sales specialist (now closed) selling me the car that had previously had a cambelt failure. They had bought one cheap, botched it up and sold it a garage price. Cost 2k to put it right.

Bad luck and hope you get it sorted.
