GT 3 yrs timing belt changes - warning

Only 2 yrs old, but my JTS was due the 36K timing belt change at the service which was changed in about 5 hrs - note it also includes a pre-tensioner swap as well.

Anyway next moring noticed a 50p size puddle of oil on the garage floor, looking under the car for oil to run out it onto the floor it has to fill up the under car cover so there was quite a lot of leak. Took it back to the garage who said its a rocker cover leak, which tallied as I could see the trail all the way up the engine.

Turns out that Alfa do not supply the new gasket to the rocker in the GT timing belt replacement kit ( they do for all other petrol vers ) and hence the garage just re-used the old one with a bit of silicon as they do have to open that up as part of the job. This presented a bit of tussle with the garage on getting them to put right FOC, which luckily was resolved.

So just in case, suggest for £17.50 ( price of gasket ) its worth getting them to put a new one on at the timethey do the job. Otherwise there is a risk oil will be going external.

interesting. surely/hopefully alfa dealers will provide feedback to the relevant importer (not sure which country you're from) to rectify this! you'd presume you're not the first person to encounter a problem.

glad to hear it was sorted out.
