156 V6 Engine Mount

Hi Everyone,

I have been reading a few posts regarding the engine mounts on a 156 2.5 V6 - I'm pretty sure that one of mine is on it's way out, as the engine tends to shudder and bounce when I reverse very slowly (up my driveway) or generally in 1st gear when pulling away. It sometimes shudders when changine gear as well - but quite rarely.

The question is, what one is it?! I have removed the undertray from the car, and found three engine mounts under there. One, on the front passenger side, a big-bertha on the front drivers side and a small one (that doesn't seem to do much), which has a few pipes running through it. There probably is one at the back as well, but from what i can see they are all in good condition, and have no play in them.

However, the top engine mount - which runs from the drivers side suspension turret does have excessive play in it, although the rubber only has a few minor creases/splits in it, and I can lever it about quite easily with a screw driver (which does seem to make the engine bounce!) Is this likely to be the one at fault, or is this normal to have play in it?

Cheers Guys,

Re: 156 V6 Engine Mount

There should be some play in it to allow the engine to move around and absorb the vibrations. The mount itself (ie the metal part) should be pretty rigid though.
