Cry Like A Baby Engine almost dying occasionally

Well over the last few days I have had 2 instances of the engine almost dying. Even giving it a few revs doesnt do anything except make it splutter, it doesnt increase the revs. If i turn the car off and on again (when it happened, to get away from the lights) it seems ok. Cant see any kind of pattern to it and replaced the MAF about 3 months ago.
Does anyone have any ideas?

P.s. The best way to describe it is that it almost feels like its run out of fuel and is fighting to stay alive

What brand is the Maf and where did it come from? Sounds to me like the Maf is momentarily completly dying.

Re: Engine almost dying occasionally

Embarrased to say it but bought it from flea bay (in my defence it was before I joined this forum and was warmed against them). I tried to get money back before I fitted it but blood and stone spring to mind. Would the injector light not come on if it was dying?

No, that is the problem, the ecu cannot detect a dying MAF, only a dead one.

I have an ebay maf on my car (previous owner) and i am having very similar problems than you. I managed to stop this for about 2 months by cleaning the MAF but it has returned so i am just going to put a new Bosh maf in.

Bugger, I had a horrible feeling that might be the case. Oh well, do you think if we order ours together that we might get a discount

No offence but buy the originals and do things right once rather than wasting your money on two MAF's which potetionally could be broken and costing you more money and more hassle. Get a good dealer and build up a relationship with them and they will sort ya out.

Jamie Porter sells them for about the same price. That's where I just got mine.
