Engine Oil

Its being suggested on the general forum that Alfa are saying we should be running on 10w-60 does anyone else know about this?

Anyway while doing a search I found this site which is a real good source of oil based info!!

Re: Engine Oil

Really good article that mate.: Loved the bit about'snitching' the magnets from a computers hard drive, I did the very same thing.: Use a 5/40 fully in winter, 10/40 summer. Always OEM filters, weigh more, and are better constructed than most. Did a weight test between a couple, one genuine, one pattern, with interesting results.:

Re: Engine Oil

Hi,

Yes you must use 10w 60!, My Alfa dealer uses Castrol Edge Sport 10w 60. its specifically designed for stressed high performance engines and is arguably one of the best fully synthetic oils on the market.

I get excellent performance and longitivity from my oil My oil level only needed a slight top up after 6000km and the dealer said this was very good indeed..

What oil have you been using?

Cheers Josh

Re: Engine Oil

5w-40 fully synthetic all year for me. If I was having problems with oil consumption I may go for a thicker one such as 10w-50. 10w-60 is a bit OTT for a climate like the UK but should be ok foir a hotter climate like australia.

Re: Engine Oil

Mine had magnetec in it when I bought it and is now due its first service, I have to say it hardly burns any oil, topped up twice I think- a couple of cupfulls at most.
