Hmmm 156 2.5 v6 72k service at 60k (cam belt)

Hello me again about cam belt and service-

history- 1999 156 2.5 v6 no cam belt change history car now at 60k miles.

i have seen all the horror stories ref cam belts snapping

i have been searching for local service centres to me (gosport hants) to do the full service and have found through forum and the alfa workshop roberts aerospace of fareham who are advertising on their web site the full job including all parts and labour for £618 inc vat.
(i am starrting to think that it may be cheaper to thow away the car if this happens and just buy another, est value of car £2k and getting much less each year!)

i have also sent alex jupe an email but had no response so i guess i will have to phone (no reply to email is not encouraging!)

Q. is this a fair price (probably is?)
Q. has anyone used them before?
Q. any other tips
Q. can anybody reccomend any one else in my area?

It is not only the mileage of the belt but the age too - if its never been changed then you are living on borrowed time - 60k miles is low mileage for these engines and it would be a real shame to allow it to fail because you dont want to pay for its service.

It is a big job to change the belt on a V6 - engine needs to come out. Also a new water pump should be fitted too. I dont think the price is too far off but depends on what is included.

I had mine done as I had no history on the car, mine had covered 168,000 miles, price was just over £550 by an indie in Poole.

As Pacs said it should be replaced every 5 years or 72k miles, but some people get them done around the 60k mark as the variator can go and take the belt with it.

Best to be safe. Engine didn't have to come out on mine, but becaise I had the LPG conversion it took a little longer.
