What else to change at same time as cambelt V6 Turbo?

Anyone know if anything else is recommended to be changed when the cambelt is changed on the V6 Turbo? Asked my local specialist and the alfa garage and no-one knows because of the rarity of the car

WOuld hate to spend ages changing the cambelt only to find in 2 months its all got to be done again to get to a little bit

Cheers for your help in advance.

Paul

On the na V6 it is common practice to check/change the water pump. Probably the same for the TB.

Already posted on the other thread, but try Jamie Porter at the Alfaworkshop.. I'm sure he'll have seen a GTV turbo in the past. He was in Autodelta last month for turbo'ing an SZ so he seems pretty handy with the more obscure models.

ouch - think a new subframe is in the 1000's rather than the 100's

Having said that should be able to source one from a scrappie for a much cheaper price.

Looking on the bright side, the subframe must have been on its way out, far better for it to happen whilst its on the ramps rather than when you are driving - in fact it doesnt bare thinking about

Re: What else to change at same time as cambelt V6 Turbo?

Re- Waterpump it's changed because a number of V6 are fitted with an inferior plastic impeller. The metal impeller type is fitted to 3.0 GTV, so it might also be the case of the 2.0 ?

In general all bearings running on the belts is advisable to check out.. I had the power steering bearing fail driving home after a major serive/cam belt change.. that was really a sad feeling..

hope the subframe problem is not too bad

Here you go mate
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/alfa-romeo-gtv...QQcmdZViewItem

Or try sherburn spares - not sure if they carry gtvs in their scrap yard but fairly near. Its a traditional oil/mud scrapyard so take all your tools, jack, hacksaw and wellies!

Try these guys - maybe they have subfrmae but haven't listed it?

Cheers for the help and links guys, registered myself on breakeryard.com with my requirements then people offer you the part with a price, you just have to click which one you want and then it gives you a phone number.

Managed to get one for £141 delivered - with a 90 day warranty

Its powerflex time at the weekend

Nice work! Good to see another GTV kept on the roads of West Yorks, especially a rarity like the V6 turbo! Hope she give you some happy motoring to make up for the stress she's probably caused .

Are you doing the subframe yourself?

Re: What else to change at same time as cambelt V6 Turbo?

Yup doing it myself, easy enough to be honest, and I work at Mercedes so will have access to ramps etc.

Also, no stress caused at all, just relief, if the lug had snapped while driving it doesnt bear thinking about, especially with my daughter being in the car most of the time, could have been VERY bad.

Besides having a car and things not going wrong, I'd have nothing to do

Re: What else to change at same time as cambelt V6 Turbo?

I find this snapped subframe deeply worrysome, what do you mean exactly? Lug snapped? where? was it from the scoring caused by shredded lower rear bushes reported on here?

Maybe some threads deserve highlighting in BIG RED letters. Glad no harm done!
