Servicing/Timing belt price in Dublin area

Hi All,

I need to get my 147 serviced, plus get its timing belt changed. I've been quoted by an independant Alfa specialist (Gery Campbell in T.I Autos) Euro250 plus vat for the service, E350 plus vat for the timing belt change incl labour, and if i want the variator changed its another E130 plus vat (no charge for labour).

This is my first time getting an Alfa serviced so have no idea how good/bad these prices are. Anyone in Ireland able to confirm if this is a reasonable price. Also is it standard that the cost of oil and oil filter be included in the service price or would that appear as extra on top of the service price?

Cheers

I've never used the guy, but hear nothing but good things about him, usually if you get a price for a service, it includes everything, oil, filter etc.
His price for changing the T-belt is reasonable and plus he's not charging you labour for the variator if you need it.

Ring up an Alfa main dealer and ask for a price for the same work and compare the difference.

Re: Servicing/Timing belt price in Dublin area

Well I rang three Alfa Stealers in the dublin area just to get an idea of how their prices compare to the quote i got from my local indy garage:

Airton Motor Centre, Airton Rd, Dublin 24
Service E260 incl vat
Timing Belt change and variator E750 incl vat
Total E1,010

Donohoes Motor City, Kylemore Road, Dublin 12
Service E370 incl vat
Timing Belt change E450 incl vat
Variator part E170 plus half hour of labour
Total approx E1,020

Alasta Motors, Lotts Rd, Dublin 4
Service E300 plus vat
Timing belt change E450 incl vat
Variator E200 incl vat
Total E990

My indy garage (T.I Autos) charges:
Service E250 plus vat
Timing belt E350 plus vat
Variator E130 plus vat
Total approx E831

So my local indy garage works out about E200 cheaper than the Alfa stealers. Not much of a reduction I have to say.

If there is anyone else familiar with how much it costs to get their alfa serviced and timing belt replaced in ireland please let me know what u think of the quote i have received from T.I Autos.

Thanks

i've used Gerry Campbell & would highly recommend him over any other service centre. What the guy doesn't know about Alfa's isn't worth knowing. And i'd have to say from my own experience his charges were always fair.

Gerry's an old school guy but in the best way possible! I've never once driven away not been 100% happy.

But at least he knows what he's doing, unlike most of the dealers it would seem.
What service are you doing 12k, 24k etc?

If it's the 36k service, as it sounds like seeing as you want the timing belt done as well, my 36k service cost me €450 at a main dealer in cork. (didn't get the timing belts done, was done at the 24k service under warranty)

€450 sounds expensive if the belts were not done at that service, what else was done????

Re: Servicing/Timing belt price in Dublin area

Toby2449 - Yeah I heard Gerry is very reliable. I am definitely going to go to him.

Pmackey - My car is due its next service at 32k miles which will be in a month's time or so. The car is 5 yrs old, so I am getting the timing belt changed as its supposed to be changed at 36k miles or 3 yrs, whichever comes first.

Cheers to everyone for replying to my thread.

Just checked the receipt for the service, I got the rear drop links replaced as well, €53 each + labour. so knok about €150 - €200 off the cost for the real service price.

200 Yo-yo's is better in your pocket,
When you get her serviced take a spin up Sally Gap you'll soon forget about the cost of the service....

Did you try Auto Maintenence Service in Finglas? Anything I have got from them has always been cheaper than the other stealers.

Re: Servicing/Timing belt price in Dublin area

Check the price for the timing belt includes new tensioners.

Its the t-spark tensioners that go not the belts themselves apparently.

I have used Alasta for the last several years, they aren't cheap - the same as any other dealer.
..but Stanley must be one of the most knowledable and experienced Alfa mechanics in the country, not to mention a broad knowledge of other marques too.
They have handled everything for me including specialised engine rebuilds, race-cam timing, various track related custom suspension setup, LSD installations, as well as post-track day and pre-ring inspections servicing etc.
I rate them very highly, and they have made enormous efforts to get things done for very tight (track related) deadlines because the owner is an enthusiast (ex racer) and appreciates enthusiasts.

Efficient service department too, not like HB-Dennis (now departed!)

Cheers,
TB

I'd like to know that as well, but you might get more answers if you start a new thread for it instead of hijacking a thread about Dublin specialists.
