Cambelt Replacement Quote?????

Hi people,
My car (3.0 v6 GTV) is now at that the dreaded stage of having the complete cambelt, etc changed, I have been quoted £770 for this by an Alfa specialist. Is the quote near the mark

Think that is a bit steep, if you use the forum search tool there was a similar thread not long ago.

£570 from Alfaworkshop for cambelt & service, £400 for cambelt on it's own.

I see you have a 1999 car mate........shouldn't your belts & tensioners have been done some years ago? (60,000 miles or 5years which ever comes first if I recall) You may be on borrowed time already.

The low prices look good.

Did that include tensioner pulleys variator balancers and water pump? Cheap if it did.

Variator is twinny only not V6. Also V6 waterpumps have metal impellers so not necessary to change them (like it was recommended with pastic impellers).

PS. I'm not a mechanic so don't hold me to the above

You could contact Jamie at the Alfaworkshop to ask his advice and he's a pretty competitive parts source.

Re: Cambelt Replacement Quote?????

Don't know where you are based Stixy but this guy claims he will do a V6 for £405 inc VAT including tensioner & idlers. He's a mobile mechanic who sponsors the "other" site.

Re: Cambelt Replacement Quote?????

I ahve just been through the same process of finding a place to get the cambelt chnage and full service.. I called two local garages that I have been recomeded (PowerFiat) and CambeltKing. Both would probably have been great for the job, but since the car is under a two year warranty I needed an approved garage. In desperation I called AMC in Chelmsford which is the local Alfa dealership.. To my surprice they quoted a cost of £571 for full service, cambelt change and a full inspection with report on the car. This is only within £36 of the other two garages so I am going for a FASH option this time round. The reason why the cost is low is that Alfa UK is contribution towards the cambelt change with someting like £250 as they chnage the cambelt interval. I understand this is a one off contribution...
Well worth knowing..

Re: Cambelt Replacement Quote?????

I appreciate that the V6 probably is a different beast when it comes to the cambelt change, but if you are located in Norwich why not give Desira (Local Alfa dealer where my car came from) a call.

Re: Cambelt Replacement Quote?????

The V6 cambelt change has always been a few hundred extra than the 2.0 Litre variants, more work involved I guess.

But yeah, if you can get the cambelt and tensioners done for under £600 I say that's a bargain.

Re: Cambelt Replacement Quote?????

Variator is extra, but then again the V6 doesn't come with one, only the TS's do. So the money you save from not having to pay for a V6 cambelt change you lose in having the variator done.
