Help 156 36k service + cam belt = £800 HELP!

Hi everyone, new to the forums and Alfa's! I just bought a W Reg 156 a few months ago and absolutely loved it until, I called the local dealership to arrange a 36k service and they quoted £800 I'm sure I can get it cheaper, but I'm new to my area aswell, Leamington Spa. Can anyone point me toward a decent garage, and some guideline prices that others have paid for said service?

Thanks in advance, wanna get back to luvvin my Alfa again ASAP

What engine do you have?

As OperationAlfa has indicated, The Alfa Workshop offer a good, cost effective service but they're a couple of hours away from you.

Write to ARUK and 'enquire' if they will offer you anything towards the cost of the cambelt replacement - ARUK changed the servicing itervals on these cars and did have a fund in place to reimburse customers so it is worth a go.

PM me if you want the guy I wrote to and the address.

I got £140 back from them.

Thats a very good price, I'd also like to know whats included in that, specifically if they've included a variator change in that..

if you check out the alfaworkshop link in the previous reply, there is a lot of information on the site regarding what is included. too much to list.

Not used alfaworkshop personally but they seem to have a good following on this site

Re: 156 36k service + cam belt = £800 HELP!

hi mate, i had my 156 1.6 ts serviced recently and had the timing belt changed (1.6 doesnt have an aux belt) the variator, and also the water pump. this cost me £275 at my local garage, which are reputable in my area.

timing belt kit = £70
cam variator = £70
water pump = £35
labour = £100

i have been driving it for a couple months and everything seems to be fine.

£590 - that's nothing ! Wilsons of Epsom were quoting £900 to do a cambelt change on a 2 litre 156 (I kid you not) - obviously I don't use them.

Joe. You're about 6 miles from me and you have choices. Intaservices in Leicester are great for servicing and repair but cannot match Jamie Porter for the belts service. I used them and they were great.

I've also got a free service for the GT courtesey of AROC & Northants Alfa. The main man Mark is cool and they are all Alfa trained.

www.northantsalfa.co.uk is worth a look.

PM me if you want to know more.

Cheers,
