'whooping' noise after engine off?

Being new to GTV ownership I'm paranoid about every little tick, ding, whir, noise going. Most I'm managing to ignore but immediately after I parked the car up this evening and turned off the engine I was rewarded with this wierd whooping/howling noise for about 2 seconds.

Sounded, inside the cabin, like it was coming from the region of the centre console. Aircon? Power Steering? Beats me, anyone got any ideas?

to count out the fan which is behind the centre console/glove box area make sure it's turned off (and the aircon switch) before you turn the engine off.

Could be the engine cooling fan, which can sound quite loud in the cabin. When you cut the ignition it dies as well and gives a whirring sound slowing to nothing.

I was going to say the same...was even louder in my first 156 JTD...as think that had twin fans!

Does sound normal to me. Can be fans or aircon or the compressor......Dont stress too much

Could it be the driver "whooping" with delight after driving his GTV?

I get a fantastic star trek type noise after I switch off, but it's just the power steering pump de-pressurising. Lasts about 4 secs, it's not loud, and sounds like someone's just switched off a nuclear reactor.

Mine makes a truly sci-fi noise when it feels like it, particularly after maneouvering at full lock. Power steering sounds like being the right culprit to me.

Incidentally, I just thought I'd share how much I love my GTV. Just took it for a B road blast in the autumn dark and the V6 never sounded so good!

Sci-Fi noise is the right description. It's certainly not the engine colling fan, that's much gentler and I noise I've managed to identify and get comfortable with ;-)

Oh well, she's in for a service on Friday so hopefully that'll either sort it out or put my mind at rest.

That's perfectly normal - My 2.0GTV did that and there was nothing wrong with it at all. it's probably the power steering (or maybe oil pump) pressure changing.
