A/C belt idler. V6

Folks, does anyone know of an alternative to Alfa for the A/C belt idler/tensioner roller for a '96 V6?? Alfa want 60 + VAT for what amounts to a flippin' ball race. I mught consider removing the A/C compressor and running the belt straight to the PS pump....but the pump pulley is different offset.

...so, as an alternative...anyone happen to have either a decent idler pulley or maybe the PS pump pulley off a non A/C V6??

TIA.

Re: A/C belt idler. V6

Hi there,
I know it may seem obvious but the best place I've found for 155 parts that aren't from the alfa dealer and are very cheap is EBAY. Loads of cars are being advertised as "for breaking" All the bits I've ever got have always been in very good condition.
You don't say where you're based but if its in the Dorset area then I suggest a company called Italian Car Spares. They're much better value than alfa and the parts usually come quicker than the dealer.
Give em a call on 01202 660678 and they might be able to help you out.

Cheers Joss. I did think of e-bay, but an idler is kind of a consumable, so it could end up being as shot as the one I have. A PS pump pulley would likely be OK though...

Thanks for the thought

Re: A/C belt idler. V6

Does anyone know how the PS pump pulley is propelled in a non A/C V6? I wanted to get rid of the compressor for weight reduction purposes, but finally gave up exactly because the offsets were different on the A/C compressor and the PS pump pulley?

Re: A/C belt idler. V6

iirc its a stand alone belt driven directly from the crank pulley then you have another belt which drives the alernator and waterpump from the crank pulley
