Re: timing belt

My alfa is 5 years old and has 24,000 miles. Do you think I should change the timing belt? I only do about 200 miles/month with it. If so should the change be immenent(urgent) or can it wait til January?

Re: timing belt

If it's a v6 or a diesel, january is a must including all associated idlers and tensioners due to age.

If it's a TS tomorrow would be good, again due to age. It's now 36k miles or 3 years and the forum is littered with tales of not reaching the (then) stated time of 72k/6 years

Re: timing belt

Thanks for your reply.

Mine is a 2.0 TS. The thing is that over here in Malta the cost of parts is twice as much as those in UK(if not even more). Since my brother who lives in the UK is coming over in the beginning of next January, he can get the rerquired parts with him. That is why I was planning to do the Job in January! Til then I will have only 500 more miles on the clock. Do you think it is a big gamble?

Thanks again

Re: timing belt

Hello again to all,

According to the fully documented service history receipts on my 2002 - 52 reg 156 Turismo 1.8 the cambelt, variator, tensioner and roller were changed for the first time at 61,000 miles in September 2006.

The car has now covered 90,500 miles.

Re: timing belt

About another 7000 miles then and you'll need to change it again.
