Re: 156 engine

Not that common on the 156. Normally just runs the big-ends, etc. What sort of mileage had it done and how long have you owned it? Was there any sort of warning noise before the bang?

There are a number of places that sell secondhand engines, but with these you have not idea of their history. If I was to buy one, I'd have it rebuilt first buy a specialist, etc. Depending up on the damage on yours, you might be able to get it rebuilt but only if it hasn't damaged the block or crank too much.

Let us know where you are located and we may be able to point you in the direction of a supplier, etc.

Not the kind of 1st posting we like to see here, but welcome and even though you've had some massive bad luck, we hope that you will stay once the cars back on the road ...

cheers, Gary

Re: 156 engine

to burst through the sump it must have detached at the piston rather than the crankshaft. i've never heard of that happening on an engine except shortly after repairs due to a snapped timing belt. when a piston comes into contact with the valves it can leave an indentation mark on the piston face. when that happens you need to carefully check the conrod during the repair (but few people bother due to the inconvenience). i would be interested to see if the piston face has a valve mark from a previous belt snap.

Re: 156 engine

There won't be any mark on the piston now - it will probably have disintegrated! I've heard of a fair few cases of this happening - it can be the result of previous owners running low on oil.....

2 litre engines are always in demand - I'm generally asked for 3 or 4 a week , but bear in mind that if you can do a bit of work yourself, you can adapt a 145/6 or 155 engine to fit in a 156, and they are available cheaper. Give me a call on 07976 384980 if you want to talk it through....
