Hmmm Timing Belt

Hi All

I’m about to put a new clutch in my GTV Twin Spark. So I figure I should change the timing belt also, since it seems to be a problem with these Alfa’s.

Below is what EB Spares suggested I would need for peace of mind. Could any of you confirm this, or am I being taken for a ride?

"I would advise changing
belt, tensioner, idler, balance belt and tensioner. costs £125.00
I would also advise the variator at £70.00"

Re: Timing Belt

That list of bits looks ok to me. I'm having all of that replaced on my spider this Thursday. They're also doing the water pump at the same time, it's quite a cheap item (£30-ish) and it makes sense to change it while they're 'in there'.

Will you be doing the work yourself ? had a price including labour?

Re: Timing Belt

Thanks for the info… Just wasn’t sure what changing the timing belt would entail and didn’t want to spend more then necessary.

Also, I have heard that the waterpump is near the gearbox, but are they prone to failure? I wouldn’t want to change an item, which may have another 5 or 10 years left in it (didn’t think any fiat / alfa parts last that long, hehe…)

So, I’m getting the parts shipped to Australia, just cause in the UK they cost less then half price. Then I’ll get a Mechanic to do the work (haven’t got price yet). I’ve replaced clutches before, but its been a while and frankly I don’t want to mess around with the GTV.
