156 cambelt change.

+

Hello again to all,

According to the full documented service history on my recentley purchased 52 reg (uk) 156, the cambelt, tensioner, roller, and variator were replaced for the first time ever at 60,600 miles.

The car has now covered 89,900 miles.

2 questions for advice about, thanks in advance.

How safe is it to leave the next cambelt change to around 100,000 miles ?.

Surely if the original is changed at 60k then i should be safe for just another 40k ?.

I've just counted up on my fingers

60,600 +36,000 =96,600

That is your next cambelt change target mileage. I'm sure if you talk nicely to the car it will let you do the other 400 to get to 100k

I sincerely hope so anyway. Enjoy your new car

Re: 156 cambelt change.

Hi Trev

About to do belt change on mine even though when i got it the bloke i bought it off reckoned it had been done...but the only receipt shows it to have been done at 68,000(now 130,000)

From what i've read its the tensioners that were more prone to breaking up than the belts.Mine has a white plastic tensioner and i think it was the black tensioners that were the dodgy ones, although i aint sure about that!!

I'm sure some of the belt kits have a metal tensioner which is what i'll go with.

Best to get it done asap if only for piece of mind

Thanks for the replies Guys,

The cambelt change and full service receipt were 60,600 miles (as previously stated) on 29/03/2006.

Surely, any dodgy Alfa tensioner parts would have been modified / superceded by then (03/2006) and used on this cambelt change etc ?.

Yes,i would think that you would be correct in that any dodgy parts would have been updated by then as i'm sure alfa had changed the cambelt change interval by that time.

Between mid-2002 & November 2006 it was just check and change if required @ 36000miles/3-years.
It changed to replace @ 36000miles/3-years in November 2006.

Re: 156 cambelt change.

Mine was changed at 75K and its now at 91K so probably around 100K before a change? I did get the official Alfa warning letter.

Amazed at how many hi mileage Alfas are around, whats the highest anyone has heard of or driven/owned?

Re: 156 cambelt change.

Saw a 156 2.4 JTD on a 1999 V Reg in paper, used to be a taxi. Had 322,000 miles with history. Up for sale at £750. It had had 4 cambelt changes.
