156 Engine Cutting Out and blowing 7.5amp fuse constantly

Just recently blew a timing belt at 63K and had the work done, 10 new valves, head work etc. setting me back AUS$4.8K. Argh!!!!!

The engine seems to be running great but now twice since this being completed I keep blowing the 7.5amp fuse under the dash (the middle one in the smaller row of 6 or so) above the larger fuse section.

First one happenned 3 wks after the re-build while idling in traffic, engine just cut out and then wouldn't re-start. Turning over no problem but just not kicking in. Had the relay switch to the ECU replaced and the 7.5amp fuse and thought problem solved.......!

Now 1wk later again, the same thing, same fuse blown. Both times it has been wet.

Back to the auto-electrician and can't find a fault in the system so has now given me 4 spare fuses to keep me out of trouble until a pattern might emerge as to how and when this happens. They were v. helpful and didn't charge me anything but it seems as though it's a game of cat and mouse with no real outcome....I can't just keep driving around replacing fuses constantly!!!!

Anyone had a similar problem with these circumstances? Apologies for the long email but the more info the better I'm guessing considering the myriad of potential areas this fault could be occurring.

Thanks in advance for any help that anyone may be able to provide.

Mine did this in the first 6 months of ownership (also when in the wet but took out the 10amp one controlling most of the lights inside and out), before my cambelt tensioner decided to lunch the engine.

Took it back to the specialist who looked for bare wires or badly fitting waterproofing. Couldn't find anything.

Has been fine for the last 2 years now.

To the left hand side of the battery down about 6 inches you will find 2 huge electrical plugs that are shielded by rubber covers, check to see whether the rubber is split, if it is remove it spray connections with some lubricant and either replace rubber or make a repair.

Thanks for that, I'll check the battery area for that problem and let you know how it goes. The game of elimination begins....
