V6 cambelt, has anyone done their own?

Has anyone here attempted to do the cambelt on a V6 by themselves?
Is it really that hard, and what tools do you need?

I am fairly handy with a spanner, when it comes to cars.

Anyone seen a guide for the job?
I know the waterpump needs changing too.

Thanks,
Simon.

Not that hard to do. You just need the right tools and a fair amount of patience. You need cam locks, TDC gauge and tensioner adjusting tool. Oh, and a fairly good tool kit. Theres just a lot of stuff that needs removing before you get to the belt, cams and water pump. For your first time allow at least 16 hours. I've done a few now but still need a good 10 hours to do cambelt and water pump.

I've done this too. Beardo is right - takes some time first time round but it's not actually that hard. The required tools are different if the engine is a 24V 164 compared with the later 24V engines from 166/GTV/GTA. Don't know much about the 12V but would imagine it is a lot easier.

Have a quick read through Alfaworkshop's outline Alfa v6 cam belt change guide and see how you feel after that.

Though by the time you've bought the cam locks and stuff, unless you're particularly time rich, you might as well it done for you for around £400.

I tend to agree here, I have done lots of work on lots of different cars including a few engine re-builds, but I'm gonna pass on this one.... Took me 20 mins to do my old punto

Re: V6 cambelt, has anyone done their own?

I recently had to change the water pump on my V6 24v so I put a new belt on at the same time. I hired the Cam locks from the firm I bought the bits from and managed to set the tension without the required tool.
Not for the faint hearted but not that difficult either.
