Re: How often should a cam belt be changed

Welcome to AO ...
NB this post is, I suspect, in the wrong area to get many replies .

For a 4 cylinder PETROL Alfa 156, the rule is EVERY 36,000 miles or 3 years which ever comes first(because the belts deteriorate even if the car is not used)...Both belts and tensioners should be done as falure is often the tensioner rather than the belt it seems.

Variator is also done by many as if it fails then need new belts and tensioners when it is changed.

Both diesel and V6 engines have different belt change periods but do not know what they are.

Re: How often should a cam belt be changed

V6 and 2.4 JTD belt changes are 72k or 5 years. However most AOers recommend to get them changed around 60k to be on the safe side.

and yes this is in the wrong section. Try the 156 tech forum for further Q's

oh and welcome to AO btw :-)

Re: How often should a cam belt be changed

Great thanks for that - it was done 4 years ago so looks like it is due again.

Cheers
