V6 alternators

Hi guys. I have a 3.2 GT and the alternator failed last week. I sourced a genuine refurb from Autolusso bournmouth which got fitted. I drove about 30 mile when that failed too. We tested it to prove it was the alternator, it's not putting out any voltage when reading voltage direct (reading battery voltage only)

I have a friend who has a know to be working unit from a 3.0 166 which he has given to me for a couple of quid.
Will that work on my GT? They look identical, have the same mounting points and connection terminals.

I am going through the process of getting another from Autolusso but I need the car back ASAP and I'm unsure how long it will be before they send another.
They want the unit they sent back so they can investigate why it's failed but without another the cas is going to be stuck on the ramp and costing money.

might be worth an auto elec doing a few tests or diy if you know what your doing , if its like this it may be computer / ecu controlling the duty of the alternator.
this car danners working on had just had a alternator but found at the end to be broken wire in harness.

When it went originally on the way home from work. I got "battery voltage low" and about 30-40 mile later I got "ABS Error" "VDC Error" and then she died.

This time, all was fine, I drove about 30 mile and got all three at once and the odometer started flashing.
I read the ECU and got a P0560 code which I cleared. That stopped the odometer from flashing anyway.

In theory yes unless the mounting brackets are different. But don't think so.
I would get them to test it before it goes on and the battery is good.
At least that way you will know it's a problem with the car not the alternator.

All the dash board christmas tree is probably due to lack of electricity (battery/alternator)

All sorted now. Was a fault with the regulator.
Big test tomorrow with a 400mile round trip drive...

Fingers crossed for you mate. Replaced mine with Lucas refurb last week and am trying to put some miles on it so I get some confidence back in it.

I've done just short of 100 mile today so I'm pretty confident. Needless to say, I have a set of jump leads in the boot to get a quick charge from a kind passerby. Enough to find a new battery to put on.... Lol
