Occassionally engine hesitates then bursts back into life. Ideas?

normally happens at the lights...

first gear, a little throttle... then all of sudden it's like the engine has a small misfire and then it'll jerk back into life

problem only started a few weeks ago... only happens occassionally and has improved since i got the chip replacement

Re: Occassionally engine hesitates then bursts back into life. Ideas?

Had a similar problem with mine about 3 years ago. Turned out to be ignition leads on way out quite normal symptom of lead breaking down under load but fine when free reving, changed mine and sorted straight away.(Due to fairly hgh cost of replacement non genuine lead set I replaced mine with magnecor 8mm set readily availible on internet for very similar price) Hope this is of some help

If your idle is also a bit lumpy when it does that, you might want to have a look at the Lambada sensor.

Happened on one of my old 155's 1.8 16v.

When you removed one of the injectors leads there was no change and when you put in back on it was ok for a bit. which means its an ecu problem or a dirty injector? unsure what it actually was, sold the car as is, with fault.

suggest you check for ingress in the plug wells, either oil or water as both will cause a mis-fire and poor running...

Had a similar sympton on my 1.8 TS, turned out it was a loose earth lead in the engine bay ... the bolt had fallen off.
