New cambelt costs on V6???

How much is a reasonable price for cambelt swap?
I guess it depends on belt tensioners and an auxillary belt???
I am going to get the job done but do not want my hat nailed on, main dealer wants £618, indies do not seem much cheaper.
What is the going rate and is there any truth that the water pump needs to be done at the same time. (car done 47k)???

think about 500 is average...alfaworkshop.co.uk are a bit cheaper though. Water pump depends on whether you've got one with a plastic impeller i think...

yep...as nail has said...500-550 is a reasonable price...twinnies need a change at 36k ...V6 can comfortably go 60k

V6s do NOT go to 60K.
Many on here will testify to the expense of leaving it that long. Tensioner and idlers are the weak point as mush as belt. Anything can go after about 40k/3 years.

Both V6's here have done a 60k/4 year stretch. I wouldn't leave it any longer though.

Took your advice crispy and using your man Nick Holmes, he is picking car up tonight.
It turns out he is in Garforth, only ten minutes from me.

No, they've already been changed. What I'm saying is that both V6s have successfully completed a four year stint without having the cambelt change. The Super's done it twice. You're right though, I wouldn't leave it any longer than that.

You could try Sherburn Motor Spares as they not only break alfa's but also service and do engine work. Might be cheaper than a dealer

They are in West Yorks, phone number is 01977 684222, more info at http://www.yellowtom.co.uk/Leeds/mot...ries/1379.html

Re: New cambelt costs on V6???

Just had car returned from Nick Holmes.
The job cost £500ish and he looked at a couple of other very minor issues I had.
Its a strange one this as I have spent a big chunk of money and the car still looks and feels the same, peace of mind I guess.
The guy who did the work picked the car up and dropped it off when the work was done. He seemed to know his stuff and price was OK.
Above all he is a nice guy who actually wants to work on Alfas.
He gets my vote and more importantly more of my hard earned when more work needs to be done.
