Wave engine knocking

Hello to all.
I might as well start with a biggie, well here goes.
I have had a 146 for 5 years with relatively little problem . I initially bought it from salvage repaired it , and have liked the car so i thought i would try again.
So i bought a 156 with a bottom end knock. On removing the sump i found that one shell had turned round in its seat and another was pinched but there was no scoring on the crank so i replaced all the shells .
After replacing and retightening them i discovered that there was significant side play on one of the con rods and slightly on another , does this mean the crank has worn along its seat length and can it be reconditioned. I have not known of this kind of problem before but have read and heard that TS are notorious for bottom end failure.
I do like the car so want to repair it so any advice that can be given will be appreciated.

pretty sure the crank can be reground, an engine out job though as you'll have to detach it from the flywheel

Check to see if there is a service limit for con rod movement. Does the crank move? Maybe the thrust washers (if it has them) are worn.

Remove the crank and check if it is bent. This is often the case when they run bearings. Also when the shell turns the big end is normally oval and you would have to replace it.
