What is the sequence of the steps when disconnecting the Engine ECU.

Hi guys,

I am sending my ECU away for de-coding and I would like to know what is the sequence of the steps I need to follow before I disconnect the Engine ECU.

1) Do I just disconnect it?

2) Do I disconnect the battery first (negative terminal first and then the positive one) and then the ECU (after about 10 minutes)?

3) Do I disconnect the battery first (as above) and then the code reader and then the Engine ECU?

Thanks,
Michael

Not 100% sure, but when i had mine re-mapped it was just unplugged and unbolted.Battery stayed connected as did everything else.

Re: What is the sequence of the steps when disconnecting the Engine ECU.

Thanks. I actually followed step 2 yesterday. It seems that you should also wait 20 minutes to be on the safe side between battery disconnection and ECU removal because it seems that there are a number of capacitors linked to the airbag operation that can activate the airbags if you disconnect the battery and straight away you disconnect the ECU. I am not sure how accurate this information is but I waited for 20 minutes anyway. Better to wait 20 minutes that not and be sorry when you see your airbags coming out

1\ Extract your claw hammer
2\Place the claw under the ECU
3\ Give it a sharp yank!!
