Re: 156 engine problem

Depends how bad the damage is ...

The problem will be the damage to the bores and the crankshaft which may mean a rebore and regrind ... it's probably still cheaper to rebuild yours though than to get a new engine. And if you get a 2nd hand one, who is to say it is in perfect condition ... you may end up rebuilding that one as well.

Re: 156 engine problem

Go with Gazza on this. Need to have a look and see the damage/wear on bores and crankpins first, and then decide?:

You would pay that at least for a 2nd hand one not knowing how good it is and if been serviced. good luck

Re: 156 engine problem

that is a good price if it includes labour and all the parts. Don't forget the engine has to come out and go back ...

I paid over £1200 to have my engine rebuilt when the big-end went. You'll also need a new cambelt so replace the tensioners, gaskets, oil, oil filter, probably an oil pump and I'd stick a new water pump in for good measure.
