Wave Did my mechanic bypass the ECU warning light?

Hi guys,

pleasure to be a new part of this community. I recently bought a 2005 Gt 1.9 JTD but soon after I got the error message saying: MOTOR CONTROL SYSTEM FAILURE.
I took it back to the dealer who was supposed to call me once the problem was diagnosed but I've just called for an update and they've told me the car is repaired and ready for pick up. My question is just can the warning messages & lights be bypassed or reset without repair?

They said it was a turbo hose problem (i think) could barely hear on the phone. Which I had read on another site may be a cause of the issue.

Any help would be great!

Thanks all.

I'd take it to an Alfa specialist, rather than a dealer, and see what they think. I can recommend Mark at Mototech in Litherland (Home - MotoTech), as can a number of people on here. Gus at Alfatune in St Helens also has an excellent reputation (Alfatune Motorsport).

The warning can be rest without fixing the problem alright.
Anyone with a laptop and a cable can do that, you too.
But if the problem is not resolved the message and associated fault code will appear again.

If they had a shonky hose and tightened it up.. then all they would need to do is reset the light.

Could be all in order, especially as you couldn't hear the call properly..

Thanks for the replies. So I got the car back and all seemed fine. No warning light and no loss Of power. Until Saturday evening when I had to give it some gas on the Motorway and then it happened again.

The dealer said to bring it back and they can fix it again? Again? What the hell could you have fixed in the first place if I'm bringing it back a week later?

I love the car but I'm thinking maybe I need to just return it? It's warrantied for 6 months but I'm still very concerned.

Well, you can get software to read the error codes for your laptop or smart phone.
By reading the codes yourself, you can sort of guide yourself into what the problem is.
Lots of guys here would know what an error code MIGHT mean.

I would not give up just yet. Just ask the mechanic specifically what he did then, and what he is doing now.

Good luck

If your warranty means you can return it, I would not give it more than three strikes. And yes do make sure they are actually doing something. The idea of having someone who knows Alfas well look at it is excellent to. Could highlight something dealer is avoiding fixing.
