opinions on 156 with replacement engine
hi guys, ive got my heart set on a 2.0JTS 156 and was due to buy one a couple of weeks ago. its a late 52 reg and spec-wise is everything i'd want, from the veloce kit, big spoiler, bose, etc. the only thing was the 80k-odd mileage but the car was fairy cheap and i would be getting a 1 year warranty and all belts/tensioners changed.
anyway, couple of days before i was due to pick it up the garage rang to say their mechanics werent happy with a noise they could hear from the engine (i spotted the car while it was still awaiting preparation so they hadnt serviced to start with). they alledge to have sent it to a local alfa specialist and the engine problem couldnt be found. they rang yesterday to say it'll be end of next week now as they are putting in a 8'000 (eight thousand) mile engine in at no extra cost. as long as the source and mileage of the engine is verified as being sound would you lot still go ahead with the sale?
some people at work say they wouldnt, but some say they would based on the fact its a car i would enjoy and will probably cover no more than 4'000 miles a year in it anyway, due to being walking distance from work. like i said, its the ideal spec for me, and im struggling to find another JTS that i wouldnt want to change anything on after buying it. i'd still be getting the 1 yr warranty with it and would renew it each year.
cheers in advance, adam.
