Cambelt or Coilovers?

I've done 19,500 miles and the car is 3 years and 9 months from registration. I had intended to get the cambelt done with the service at the end of this month (£400 for the cambelt change).

I am going to Maclennans who have a great reputation and I spoke to Stewart himself who said that the V6 belts are not an issue (unlike the 4 cylinder's) and if it was his car he would wait a little longer before doing the work. He is clearly shooting himself in the foot with regards to the cambelt job so his advice is clearly valuable and in keeping with his tremedous reputation.

I like the idea as I can now spend my money on coilovers but am I being too rash in order to get suspension?

I know that most folks would say at nearly 4 years its time to get it done regardless of mileage - I am caught in the middle.

Your advice is greatly appreciated.

Personally I would get the belt done now and wait for the coilovers.

Re: Cambelt or Coilovers?

The problem is that if the belt breaks then you will have an expensive mess on your hands and the Coil-overs, well they will not be much use on a car without an engine!!! ....

Certainly if it was a 4 cylinder engine I would rush, not walk to the nearest dealer but I am no expert on a V6.........

The other relevant factor is that the warranty has just expired ......

It's a difficult one. I've just had the belts of both V6s redone at four years, one had done about the same mileage as yours and one had done about 60k. Both looked in pretty bad shape. For peace of mind, I'd say do it. You could probably wait a few months if you wanted.
