Re: 1.9 JTDm - Belt or Chain ???

Look for the removable cover for a belt, o/s. plastic. The chain will be encased in an oil tight housing, probably a metal casting, or pressing, of sorts.:

Re: 1.9 JTDm - Belt or Chain ???

It has a belt.

Only the new 159/Brera JTS petrol engines have chains

Re: 1.9 JTDm - Belt or Chain ???

Diesels aren't as strained as the petrol engines due to the lower revs - no need for a chain so all the diesels are belts.

Ah! first it was AF talking, on body repairs, now it's you Frazer, regarding engine types. Totally agree with you on your salient point on revs! Comes back to the strain factor. Glad that some are in agreement over this.:

Re: 1.9 JTDm - Belt or Chain ???

Plus us diesel drivers tend to be higher milers, so even though we change ours every 72K that might only be 3 years or so. I think the winter must take it out of them, warming in operation and then freezing overnight, for a full 3 months or so of the year...
