A new 147 timing belt disaster!

Alas, I'm the latest unfortunate b*gger to have his timing belt go.

Reading the posts here its really my own fault.. 60,200 miles, 52plate.. I should have seen it coming.

She's a 1.6TS 147.

I think I know what the options are from reading posts on here.

Step 1: Send the car to a good alfa mechanic.
Step 2: .. depends on what he says.. my preference will probably be to put a replacement (as new as poss) engine in, and then basically keep the car till kingdom come.

I have a question though..

Can I put a 2.0TS engine into my 1.6 car?

thanks!

Pete

Feel for you mate!

If you put a 2.0 litre engine in, your will need the ECU, etc.

Hi, same idea, my gone aswell, 2.0 litre, that sounds much better, I know!!! Unfortunately, I spoke with Alfa mechanics and answer....new ECU, new gearbox and another 'smaller' thinks... so sorry, I'm dissapointed aswell. Anyway good luck and strong nerves, actually I still don't know how much....

Re: A new 147 timing belt disaster!

the bill will at a minimum start with a number that sounds like 3, like £1300. some places can get the cost down nearer the £1000 mark but many get up to £1600+++

TBH a ripoff, parts are about £100 for cambelt kit, £90 for variator if you need/want to replace it, about £30 a valve for replacement, £60-80 for a gasket set, row the boat out with new head bolts at about £30 and probably about 6-10 hours labour charged.
