I posted this problem in the Mito section on this forum as well, but thought that someone here might also be able to help me out
The car I'm having problems with is a 2009 1.3 diesel Mito, with 73.000 km (45.000 miles) on the clock.
Sometimes, and it is only sometimes, my car will get horrible mileage! I was driving out to visit my parents the other day, and while going around 120 km/h (75 mph) on the speedo, the car would return around 20 km/l (47 mpg) quite easily. Then, when I drove back the same day, I could barely get the car to do 14 km/l (33 mpg)!
When I then turned off the freeway and stopped at a traffic light, I noticed that the car smelled a bit of diesel, and it wasn't idling smooth at all.
There's a video of the idling problem here: Alfa Romeo Mito 1.3JTDm rough idle - YouTube
The two things seems to always be connected. When the car gets horrible mileage, it wont idle properly either...
The car does this quite often! Like several times a week, even though it mostly drives on the highway.
I've tried giving the car some engine cleaner in the fuel tank and through the intake system, but it doesn't seem to have helped
Any ideas or thoughts would be greatly appreciated!
