Quickie fan speed electrical problem questione

My sister has a Renoort Megane which I'm borrowing while Blue is in intensive care following a water pump failure and engine wreck.

The Megane's fan only works on 0-1-2 and 4. It doesn't work on 3.

If it's a simple fix, I'd like to sort it out, since it's been like this for ages... but what's the usual cause of one speed setting not working?

Garage
No idea, as this is not a Renault forum
I would suspect just a bad switch / loose wire

the different positions on the switch make connection to different resistors. 0= infinite resistance, 4 =no resistance (other than the motor itself). the resistor for 3rd speed is broken, you will need a new resistor pack.

or the switch itself is broken, obviously....

Ah good lad.

I'll see if I can find out where the resistors live - Pierre does things slightly differently to Luigi..

I did have a nose around the Renault forums but they're not that good..

It would be very close to the fan, as the fan is used to cool the resistors. follow the wiring back from the fan
