Big differnce between I.9 JTD and 1.9 JTDm

Hi. I have recently become an owner of a 156 1.9 JTD 8v.

The car will need a major service and clutch / flywheel job in the not to distant future. Hence I might consider swapping in a lower milage engine with.

So is it a good idea to go for a JTDm?
Will the additional 40bhp be very noticeble?

1. Has anyone done this swap?
2. Are there any garages in the UK / Germany /Skandinavia that does this with a fair price?

I know that these cars are cheap in mainland europe, but in Norway 156 in good nick are rare and I have a keeper (the body is pretty decent). Registration costs for an import are high too.

It is not an easy swap. ECU and wiring is different. EDC15 vs EDC16.
If you change the ECU, you will need also the key from the donor, or else it won't start. Also body computer has codes for remote control unlocking... so that should be changed too...

JTD multi-jet 140/150HP is a 16V engine with 6speed gearbox.

There never was JTDm 16V engine used in 156, they have stopped making 156 when JTDm arrived (JTDm is newer version of JTD multi-jet), so I would not try to use JTDm in 156, it will be a nightmare to complete

1.9 M-Jet is not the same JTDm?
I looked this up on wikipedia.
Alfa Romeo 156 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

So can you swap in a 1.9 M-Jet 16V or is that also dependant on the harness.
